Windmills And Tulips !
Posted On Saturday, May 20, 2000 at at 8:28 PM by AlvinAs we were both in Holland for a short contract, we made good use of our weekends and public holidays to explore this lovely country. The spring time of Holland was full of tulip fields and we saw rows and rows of beautiful tulips along the many back-country lanes of Utrecht, Den Haag and Gouda. We took time to drive south where we found gale-force-wind-a-plenty and as a result there were wind-mills-a-plenty ! There were many parks in Holland where they offered free bikes for exploration and we took time to explore canal-bound parks in the Zeeland province in the south of the country. We love this country !
Groovy Amsterdam
Posted On Sunday, April 30, 2000 at at 12:04 AM by AlvinAmsterdam was just one groovy city with its many canals, bars and cafes. We happened to be in Amsterdam during the Queen's Birthday (Queen's Day), April 30th of each year, where the whole city turned into one gigantic party with music and people dancing on every street; we really enjoyed our day-out and saw revellers really letting their hair down and enjoying themselves.
We lived in a small Dutch town called Tiel some 100 km south of Amsterdam and although the drive to work was a bit of a fuss, we enjoyed our peace in this quiet little town. We frequently travelled up to Amsterdam, meeting up with friends and Mandy even once tried some "Local" cakes which afterwards she got pretty high -yeh, pretty "spaced-out" really.
We really loved this country where we hardly saw a hill and the friendly Dutch people were very tall - we were absolutely dwarfed whenever we went shopping in the market and we disappeared in the crowd !
Where We Went In NY

Posted On Saturday, January 1, 2000 at at 9:37 PM by AlvinWe spent the afternoon of the Millennium Eve wandering the atmospheric Times Square and watching fireworks in Brooklyn in the evening - such a memorable night. I had to go back to work at the New York Stock Exchange the next morning and luckily found everything ticking over fine and the Millennium Bug didn't raise its ugly head. Needless to say, I took part in many many "Drills" over many many weekends beforehand to ensure all would be well; but those are amazing stories which we don't have time for right here, ask me another day; honest, the joys and pains of working in this city are so memorable.
It is very sad to be leaving the Big Apple but hey next stop Amsterdam, groovy baby, here we come !
