Guangxi (廣西)
Posted On Monday, October 8, 2001 at at 12:27 AM by AlvinGuangxi (廣西) was a Chinese Province located on the Western part of China and it shared the boarder with Vietnam. Guangxi was famous for the karst mountain formations and river scenery. We spent a week traveling up and down the Li River (漓江) and visited a few interesting cities such as Guilin (桂林) and Liuzhou (柳州).
The different incredible karst formations sculpted by wind and rain resembled different animals which included such interesting examples as The Elephant Trunk Hill and of course the Camel Hill below.

Seoul - A Pleasant City Break
Posted On Monday, September 3, 2001 at at 11:58 PM by AlvinThis was our first time in Korea and we enjoyed greatly the Korean food and the colors and sounds in the capital city - Seoul. Of particular note was the Korean Fruit Wine that went down extremely well with the Korean roasts we had. All in all, a very relaxing few days spent walking around the Imperial Palaces, the famed garment outlets as well as enjoying a river cruise on the Han River.
My First Puotonghua Presentation In Beijing
Posted On Wednesday, August 22, 2001 at at 7:38 PM by AlvinA 3 hours flight to Beijing this morning was hardly enough time to polish up on my My First Puotonghua (普通話) Presentation to a Chinese Bank ! But I somehow managed and the client seemed to be impressed enough to want us to visit their site tomorrow.
My colleague and I were delighted although we were only prepared for a day trip from HK and only had with us, our laptops, mobile phones and our suits ! Luckily the excellent and fantastically designed and equipped hotels in the business district of Chao Yang (朝陽區) offered us everything from tooth brush to a bottle of mouth-watering Claret for this sojourn. As a result, we presented ourselves the following day in top form, the clients were impressed and we won our very first project in mainland China, yee ha !

Working In Central
Posted On Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at at 7:23 PM by AlvinWorking in Hong Kong is a very exhilarating experience, perhaps it's the nature of business as well as the bustling feel of Central. My office is right at the business district of Central opposite the fabulous HSBC building and across from the Government House. I don't find the work overly demanding as previously in New York but definitely more commercial tact is required in handling the many clients and fitting them into my deadlines. It is very interesting to have numerous opportunities to travel to The Mainland to carry out projects, presentations and meetings in Puotongua - mainly Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Also, the transport in HK is the best I have experienced as it is only a 40 minutes clean, efficient bus ride from home. Driving would be a pain instead of a gain as convenient parking space is hard to come by. Here is my office:
