Eye-Opening Tehran And Venturing Out To Kashan And Villages
Posted On Monday, September 12, 2011 at at 2:33 AM by AlvinWe had been interested in coming to Iran for a long while to see the rugged landscape, experience the legendary hospitality of the peoples and visit the famous mosques and palaces. We managed to apply for the visa lately - so transiting via K.L., we landed in the dust and smog filled capital, Tehran. For the next few days, we got to know Tehran which was blanketed by blue skies and suburbs filled with fascinating avenues, buildings and palaces; of course the smog and motor fumes were never far away. We visited The Golestan Palace, Jewel and National Museums, Shahr Park, Sa'd Abad Museum and of course paid many visits to the local kebab shops. After 2 hours' bus drive, we reached the low-key and tranquil city of Kashan and its surrounding villages. We visited the many beautifully restored traditional houses (Khan-e Tabatabei and Ameriha), the ancient city walls, the characteristic bazaar as well as sampling the local dish of Dizi (meat stew with chick peas) in a restored bath house. We ventured out to the nearby photogenic village of Abyaneh with its mud brick buildings and lattice windows as well as visiting the famed Fin Garden about 8km from Kashan - the most beautiful garden in Iran ! That was quite an introduction to this interesting country.
