The Road To Mandaley
Posted On Monday, January 29, 2007 at at 2:28 AM by AlvinMandaley awaited us next and little did we know, also was Hotel “Aggro-Mozzies”. The mosquitos in this hotel were so aggressive that they kept literally “ramming” into our bedsheets which we used to hide under ! Apart from these unfriendly locals, Mandaley was a very nice city, especially we happened to meet up with our jeep driver Mr Htun-Htun who was recommended to us by a couple from England we met in the Bar. We went on his open-top jeep to Amarapurra and the U Beins Bridge, nice day out !
We also visited Mandaley Hill where there were temples after temples as we scaled up the Hill through a wooden tunnel.

The Golden Rock At Kyaiktiyo
Posted On Friday, January 26, 2007 at at 1:22 AM by AlvinKyaiktiyo was where the great Golden Rock was located. We left Yangon at 430a.m. for the kidney-busting 6-hours bus ride to Kinpun, where we caught an open-top truck up to The Golden Rock. Little did we know, the truck stopped at the “entrance” where we then had to hike 45 degrees up for 2 hours before we caught sight of the truly inspiring Golden Rock. Having spent a night at Kinpun (nice cold beers but lousy food), we made our way back to Yangon via Bago where we spent an interesting afternoon visiting a few Buddhist temples.
Heat in Yangon
Posted On Monday, January 22, 2007 at at 9:30 PM by AlvinWe arrived in Yangon via Bangkok this morning and we had plenty of time to explore Yangon followed by a chilli-hot dinner at a local restaurant where the chairs were so low that we felt as if we were squatting. Still trying to get used to this heat and humidity...and we spent an hour in the Traders Hotel to cool off. Very interesting city ! We went at night to the city's main stupa - Shwedagon, the lights and reflections were magical and the atmosphere was one of calm and peace as there were local families strolling quietly around this justly famous stupa.
